STORIES

Summer - new collections

We’ve had a busy Spring travelling around showing our wares in Leeds, Sheffield, Altrincham and most recently we spent a lovely bank holiday weekend in the world heritage village of Saltaire.

As part of the Saltaire Inspired Arts Trail weekend we took part in the makers market in the beautiful Victoria hall. We wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who visited our stall and took an interest in our work, we met some lovely people and had some wonderful feedback, especially with our new product ranges.

Introducing our new Elland felt storage cubes and Marsden sacks...

The felt we use for our storage cubes is very special, made from 100% recycled textiles which are processed and manufactured into felt in Yorkshire. The mix of materials which go into the felt making process create an amazingly random, multi-coloured melange of yarns and threads – even the odd label from a recycled garment can turn up – giving each cube its own character.

The second new addition to our product range is our Marsden sacks, made using re-purposed coffee sacks sourced from our local coffee roaster, Dark Woods. Each bag is made from a coffee sack and comes in an array of colourful designs each of which tell a story of the journey it’s been on, from farmer to roaster.

We’re currently busy preparing for our upcoming summer events, with the first being The Great Yorkshire show in Harrogate. We’re very excited to be taking part in this prestigious event, you’ll be able to find us in Hall 2 with other lifestyle retailers at the showground from 11-13th July.

You can also find our work on show in an exhibition at the lovely Heart gallery in the beautiful Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge this summer. The exhibition will be showcasing work from members of the Design Factory group, an Arts Council England funded organisation which promotes high quality arts and crafts within the UK and will run from 30th July until the 8th October.

Our last event of the summer will be in the historic city of York, from the 24th to 27th August you’ll be able to find us taking part in the Made in Yorkshire marquee of makers at Parliament square in the city centre. We will be showing a full range of our products at all of the above events.

That's all for now, we hope you have a fantastic summer ahead and we look forward to seeing you at a market sometime soon!

Winter - Christmas markets

We’ve had a fantastic year, with the launch of our Milnsbridge textile range and it’s by no means over yet. We wanted to let you know about two special events we’re taking part in, in the run up to Christmas.

We’re again taking part in what will sadly be the last Art Market in Holmfirth on Sunday 27th November. A great atmosphere with an amazing group of artists and makers, live music and food to enjoy, we’ve really enjoyed the markets in Holmfirth and although we’ll be sad to see it go, we’re looking forward to seeing the Art Market grow in its new home in York.

We’re also very excited to be taking part in the Frost Fair at the Whitworth in Manchester on the 3 -4th December. The Whitworth is going to be transformed into a Scandinavian wonderland, with a weekend full of activities - an ice rink, outdoor performances, an outdoor cinema and live music all culminating in a fire and firework display on the Sunday evening.

You’ll be able to find us in the outdoor makers market organised by the Manchester Craft Mafia. The theme of the market is inspired by the Danish work ‘Hygge’ meaning warmth, cosiness and all things wellbeing and we will be showing a full range of our hand-made Milnsbridge textiles accessories.

As well as the markets and our online store we will have a selection of products on sale in the Craft and Design Gallery in Leeds and the gallery shops at the Whitworth in the run up to Christmas. We also have a new selection of our popular Market and mini Market bags in our online store as well as our new Milnsbridge Christmas stockings and baskets.

Wishing you the very best of the festive season ahead,

Liz & Margaret

Best of September

Always a busy month, September was particularly exciting with a selection of our work going into the beautifully curated shops of one of our favourite galleries - the Whitworth in Manchester.

We have spent many a happy afternoon in the gallery, with the textile exhibitions always of huge interest, with anyone who comes to stay with us getting treated to a visit. We have a selection of Milnsbridge bags and blankets in store for the next few weeks – so do pop in if your in the city.

Following the great reaction to our work in the Craft Centre and Design Gallery in Leeds, we’ve had a little bit of press this month - Downtown in Business featured a very flattering article about us on their website which we’re busy trying to live up to!

When not in and around Yorkshire we spent a few quite wet, but none the less beautiful, few days in Devon visiting family and friends and generally being a bit touristy. Other trips took us to an unseasonably warm Paris to see the new seasons fabric trends take shape - always very exciting if not a little crazy at times.

We’ve also been busy starting to prepare for our next visit to the Art Market in Holmfirth this coming November, here’s a little look at some of our more festive pieces in progress.

We’re already well into October with a full schedule of making ahead and lots of new products and updates coming soon!

Best of August

We’ve had big smiles on our faces at RM this month, following the launch of our Milnsbrige collection of textile accessories earlier in the summer, we are very excited to announce a selection of our work is starting to make an appearance in some of our favourite northern retailers.

A selection of our Milnsbridge bags have gone on sale at the lovely Craft and Design Gallery in Leeds and already received had an amazing response for visitors which has been wonderful. We’re busy working on new pieces for the gallery and will be updating with new stock over the coming weeks. Leeds is a fantastic city which we’re very fond of and it’s where my path of studying Textiles began so its nice to have new links back to the city.

We’ve also been back in the mill weaving more lengths of bespoke Milnsbridge cloth using pre-consumer waste yarns. Its going to be a busy few weeks sewing, but were very excited about some of the new colour pallets we’ve used in the new weaves and cant wait to see them made up.

When not weaving we’ve been out and about in Yorkshire - here’s a little look at a new mill we’ve visited recently, based just outside Huddersfield, who work with recycled textiles sourced from across the UK. We’re busy working on some new ideas and hope to have some new updates later in the year. It’s very exciting and inspiring to visit local mills and something we hope to do more of going forward.

Best of July

In and amongst plenty of sewing, making, designing and some exciting meetings, July has been a month of exploring, with trips to some super pretty and inspiring places.

A few days in Cornwall were spent wandering along beautiful coastlines and beaches, followed by a more energetic trip to one of the most inspiring cities - New York. There to see the new seasons fabric trends, thinking about Autumn/Winter in the crazy hot weather and visiting the amazing stores - NYC is always a great place to visit.

The month ended with a very long weekend in Lisbon, celebrating forthcoming weddings and birthdays. A beautiful city full of interesting and inspiring things and tasty treats. With wedding season now upon us, it’s going to be a very happy Autumn ahead with lots to celebrate over the coming weeks.

August is already lining up to be a very exciting month, we’re heading back into the mill weaving more bespoke lengths of woollen cloth, as well as visiting some new people in Yorkshire doing very interesting things with textile waste. We also have some exciting stockist news to announce for the new season too, keep an eye on instagram and twitter for updates.

Best of June

A odd month this one, but between the awful weather, a diminishing hope that summer is still just around the corner and the political and economic turmoil which now casts a shadow of uncertainty and unrest across the nation, we’ve had a few special highlights.

At the beginning of June we took our first collection of Milnsbridge textile accessories to the lovely Holmfirth Art Market. In amongst a very talented bunch of creative people showing an amazing collection of arts and crafts, we had a little stall showcasing our latest work.

We had an amazing day and we’re thrilled with the feedback and interest in our work from visitors, who travelled far and wide to visit the show. It was hugely encouraging that visitors loved the product, the inspiration and that we are working with local industry to produce our cloth.

We are very happy to announce we will be taking part in the Holmfirth Art Market again this November, more details to follow later in the year.

We have a busy but very exciting few weeks ahead, in and amongst travelling to some of the most amazing cities and some new ones too, we’ll be out and about showing our Milnsbrige collection as well as working on some new products with the mill too.

Best of May

It’s been a busy few weeks travelling about, with a flying trip to Barcelona in between visits to London, Manchester and Leeds – but everything came to a sudden halt with the arrival of this little fella, Fletcher the Border Terrier has now joined the RM team!

In and amongst having a very excitable puppy gambling about, we’ve been busy photographing new product for the site and generally getting ready to start showing our new collection of wares to the world.

Best of April

Spring is well and truly here and we’ve been enjoying the lovely bright mornings, even if the weather is slightly mad at times with sun, rain and snow all in one afternoon – being surrounded by the beautiful blossom trees has made up for it.

We’ve been busy working on our latest weaves and everything is coming together ahead of our first exhibition at Holmfirth Art Market on Sunday 12th June.

A mix of contemporary arts and crafts, Holmfirth Art Market showcases a range of mediums from artists, designer and makers across two Sundays in June. The market always has a great atmosphere and is well worth a visit - you can find a list of exhibitors for the two weekends here.

We will be showing a carefully edited selection of our textile accessories, all made by hand from our bespoke weaves. The nature of the yarns used and the design of the fabric means that each piece is a one-off.

May is already well upon us and between weaving and sewing, we’re also getting ready for a furry new addition to our RM team who will be joining us later this month! Woof!

Best of February

A little late this month, but we’ve been super busy over the last few weeks – nipping up and down to London with our consultancy hats on, a few days spent in Paris and frequent visits to the mill working on our latest collection of accessories.

Amongst the clattering of looms, we’ve spent happy afternoons working with the team at the mill, rummaging through boxes finding cones of yarn, hovering over the machines and generally getting in the way of the weavers.

They have been extremely patient with us and given us total freedom to design and create as we want, allowing for totally bespoke and unrepeatable lengths of fabric in beautiful colours and textures.

We’re busy working on the fabrics at the moment and will be revealing all very soon. We’re also really excited to announce we will be taking part in the Holmfirth Art Market this June, with a collection of our latest bespoke woven accessories – more details to follow!
