Stanningly cloth

A chance meeting whilst exhibiting at the Yorkshire show one summer lead to a visit of one of Yorkshires most iconic mills that has been producing the finest cloths for over 200 years. We were very kindly given a tour of the mill collecting textile offcuts from the various production lines on route, which we took back to the studio and starting work on.

The fabric we use in our Stanningly collection is the more incredible fabric. A super thick, 100% woollen cloth in its natural, un-dyed state. Its slightly brushed finish and very dense, structural nature means we can cut it and leave the edges raw, which gives a beautiful minimal look and feel.

As with anything, the simpler and more minimal it looks, the trickier it can be to get it right. We take time and care with this fabric, using an industrial rotary cutter to get the edges as straight as possible and our industrial sewing machine which can cope with sewing multiple layers of the cloth.

When it comes to designing with this fabric we try to keep the lines clean and simple to show off the beautiful structured shapes it creates when sewn together. To work with such a beautiful, luxury cloth made and finished with such skill and craftsmanship in West Yorkshire is a real pleasure and the kindness and support given by the team is wonderful.
